THE CITY OF ACQUI TERME (Pag. 2)
Apart from the
already mentioned ruines of the roman aqueduct, the past of Acqui handed
us the ancient chruch of Saint Peter and rests of the pre-roman and
roman periods (tombs, amphoras, tools of daily life) are conserved in
the Castles of the Paleologi (XI
century): the memories testify the intense commercial and social
development that the town has experienced in its history.
Other buildings
should not be forgotten: the Dome
of the XI century, the Church of Saint Francis, the medieval Tower of
the Clock beyond the elegant noble palaces.
The
greatest tourist attraction is certainly the "Bollente", though, ie. the
source of warm water that, at 75° of temperature and with a capacity of
560 liters per minute, gushes out in the center of the town, inside an
elegant marble structure of neo-classical style. In Piazza Italia there
are also an hotel with a health center and a structure for external
patients. Still today, despite the technological progress of the
medicine, the curative capabilities of the
salso-bromo-iodiche-sulphureous waters (the scientific name) remain
important in therapies for the respiratory and the movement problems, in
the vascular hydro-gymnastics and in all the treatments for rheumatic
and arthritic sufferings. In the last years also the area of the
aesthetic treatments has been developed remarkably, for the beauty
of
the ace and of the body. On this purpose, particular formulas of weekend
like the "relax" one and the "remise en forme" one are being proposed.
Equally healthy, but perhaps little less valid from an aesthetic point
of view, is what Acqui offers, in terms of food and wines: the
surroundings of the town count 9
top-class wines and 9 middle-class wines. Acqui Terme hosts the
regional Wine Cellar that is located in the prestigious Robellini Palace
and collects the entire Piedmontese production. The attractive and
various offering for a joyful vacation is of course guaranteed.
