THE MUSEUM OF THE CAMPIONISSIMI

The
Museum of the Campionissimi is of recent inauguration, located in Novi
Ligure. The campionissimi are the great heroes of cycling Costante
Girardengo and the Fausto Coppi. Girardengo, “the little man of Novi”,
was the first great champion of the history of cycling: he won the
Milan-Sanremo race after 180 km of solitary escape and with an advantage
of 13 minutes on the forerunner and more than 59 minutes on the third
one. Fausto Coppi was born at Castellania, in the Tortonese, but resided
here in Novi for nearly all his life.
The
museum has been built in an old factory and shows all the technical
evolution of the bicycle, from the model of Leonardo to the last
prototypes in titanium. It presents also the stories of the two
champions, with old movies and visual and sound testimonies of their
adventurous careers.
There is also the Room of the Virtual Reality, a futuristic place in a
museum that glorifies a distant past: it allows the visitor to
experiment, on saddleback on real computerized bicycles, a realistic
challenge with other visitors or with his heroes of cycling.
