PEACHES OF VOLPEDO
The
peach-tree is an arboreal plant that very rarely exceeds the 4 meters of
height and the duration of its life is limited to 20 years. The
cultivation of in the zone of the tortonese has been practiced for many
years in sandy lands particularly favorable to its cultivation. The
peaches of Volpedo, produced by local companies, are detached 4 or 5
times per collection, at the end of their phisiological maturation; the
extended permanence on the branches improves the colour and the size of
the product and exalts its organolectic qualities brought on the market
after a manual collection. The commercialization of the product happens
with no freezing so as to reach in a short time the consumer. In the
normal years, the period of the campaign takes plac<e between the second
decade of June and the first decade of September. Since it is not
possible to produce a unique variety that would cover all the season,
especially the quality of progressive maturation with a yellow pulp is
cultivated, but lately also the one with white pulp is present while
there are neither nectarines nor percoccae. The plants, not being
subject to plentiful irrigations, give scentful fruits with an
attractive aspect for their strong coloration.
